At least once a year I try to go and travel internationally to a new country that I have never been to… I just started this travel goal of mine last year! Last year my associate and I made the decision to go to Europe and i was easily shocked because there is hardly any cooling system used in diners and in hotels! A lot of the buildings that are in Europe are historical and not a lot of homeowners and contractor owners install central heating and cooling.
I vividly remember having dinner on a honestly hot afternoon at this small mom-and-pop diner.
The windows were open and I can remember dripping with sweat and needing a lot of ice water to drink just stay cool. If there was any way that my associate and I can transport our table outside just so I could get some sort of breeze and circulating air; As an American and being easily spoiled by a lot of businesses, homes and hotels that have central heating and cooling installed and going to a country that has easily limited heating and cooling was just something I was not used to. The worst part about our trip was the fact that there was no cooling system in our hotel dining room. I’m the type of man that consistently has to sleep with a fan on or have the room harshly freezing when I go to bed, but for two weeks I had to experience a easily hot and humid room with no air circulating, I was complaining at least every evening and I’m sure my friends were getting aggravated with me. There were evenings that my associate and I would open up the windows but there were no screens to keep the bugs out. Once my associate and I got off the plane from our trip I was so happy and looking forward to sleeping in my home’s air conditioner!
