There Wasn’t Central Heat In The Cabin Rental

My family decided to start a new tradition this year.

As soon as we were done opening presents on Christmas morning, we all got in the car and headed into the mountains for a cozy getaway.

We wanted to spend time skiing, snowboarding, eating good food, and enjoy each other’s company in a warm cabin. We booked the cabin at the last minute, so we didn’t have many options to choose from. When my mother in law booked the rental, she overlooked one major detail. There was no central heat! On any other weekend, I’m sure it would’ve been fine, because the weather is typically mild in this area. However, it snowed over two inches on the evening we arrived at the cabin! It took us over 2 hours to get there due to the freezing snow, so we were all ready to enter a cabin that was warm and cozy. When we finally arrived, we all spread out, looking for the thermostat so we could get the furnace turned on. We quickly realized that there wasn’t any central heat and instead, there were portable furnaces in each room and a large fire in the main living space. This was disappointing, because it took a little time for the portable furnaces to warm up each room. This also meant that there was no heat between the rooms and through the hallways. We bundled up in layers and cozied up in front of the fire in order to stay warm that weekend. If we do this again next year, we’re going to have to book a cabin earlier so we get central heat!
