third shift HVAC nightmare

third shift HVAC nightmare

Only certain people are cut out to work 3rd Shift.

You have to have a nocturnal personality to be able to handle the hours. Normally they start around 11 and end at 7 in the morning, so when most people are beginning their day, you were at the end of yours. I have worked this shift for years and really enjoy it. However, there are a few drawbacks. The company that I work for tries to save money on heating and cooling by adjusting the temperature during slower times of the day. The problem with this is that we never know how to dress for work. We never know exactly when they’re going to adjust the thermostat and change the temperature. I may start my shift feeling warm and comfortable and then by the end be freezing cold. During the summer when the temperatures are high at night, we may start our shift with nice air conditioning and end it with hot muggy air. I understand why they do this however I think it would be more beneficial to just maintain the same temperature all day long. Bringing the plant back up to their desired daytime temperature makes the HVAC system work harder. I have mentioned this to management but they don’t seem concerned about over working the system. I like my job and the pay is good so I really have no choice but to stay. I just know that if I owned the company, things would be done differently and my employees would have the same comfort level for each shift.
