My parents are getting older and I constantly worry about them.
So much so, that it takes away from my time with my own family.
Many times, my wife will want to plan a family day with the kids an I insist on taking my parents with us. This limits the places that we can go due to mobility and the fact that they can not tolerate extreme temperatures. The trips need to include places that have quality HVAC systems running all the time. Anyway, we came to the conclusion that it would be best to move my parents into our home so that I would not constantly worry about them. We have the extra room and figured we could just downsize their stuff and make it work. One thing that we had to make plans for was the addition of an HVAC system. We have heat, of course, for the winter, however, we do not have any form of air conditioning. My wife and I never felt the need for it because we don’t have very long summers and the temperatures are really only very warm for a week or two. The problem was that my parents didn’t even like the temperatures to be over 75 degrees and we would need some sort of cooling in their space. We looked into installing a permanent unit like a mini split ductless unit, but the cost was very high. We opted instead to purchase a standing portable unit that could be moved easily from one space to another. This will really be a perfect solution for them and us. We won’t have the expense of installing a complete system and they will be cool and comfortable.
