Rental unit without air conditioning

My sister finally moved out of our parents home last fall and she really has enjoyed living on her own.

I thought at one point she was going to live with them forever because she is already in her mid-twenties.

Her apartment is really cute and throughout the winter, she was totally comfortable because the apartment has a great heater. Now, that the summer has arrived, she is constantly complaining about the fact that she doesn’t have air conditioning. My dad told her that she had a couple of options when it came to making her place more comfortable. She could try using fans to cool off or purchase a window air conditioner and he could install it for her. She really liked the idea of a window air conditioner but knew she would have to get permission from her landlord first. He wasn’t thrilled with the idea if it was going to disrupt the woodwork for the window but said that if it didn’t, he would allow it. The next step was to find a unit that would cool her apartment and fit into the window in her living room. This was difficult because the windows were narrow. After searching they finally found one and my sister was excited to get it put in and running. Dad went over and it only took a couple of hours. Although she lost the ability to see out of the window, she is fine with it. Window air conditioners are a great way to get all the benefits of a central HVAC system in spaces that you either rent, or that are not designed to have ductwork installed.
