No heat on Christmas morning

No heat on Christmas morning

It was Christmas Eve and my heater suddenly stopped working.

My heater works off of a boiler system.

I read online that you can refill those yourself. You just open up the special area and add more water. Unfortunately, my boiler system doesn’t have a spot like that. It appears to need a specialized tool in order to refill it. I called up a boiler repair company but, of course, they couldn’t come out for almost a week. I tried calling different boiler companies and was told the same thing by every single one of them. Thankfully I had a few space heaters in the garage. One of them is a forced air space heater and the other one works by convection. Between the two space heaters my house was livable from Christmas into the new year. It wasn’t exactly comfortable though. Without the boiler working I had to bundle up to stay warm. Even with the space heaters on, I could never get warm enough. However, the space heaters did keep me from freezing to death. They also kept my pipes from freezing. So that’s good. Two days into the new year the boiler repair company came out and refilled my boiler finally. So now I am toasty warm again. I’m grateful for that. I think next year I will be preemptive in my boiler maintenance though and have the boiler repair company come out and top off my boiler way back in October or November at the latest. Then I won’t be stuck with no heat on Christmas morning.
