And, sincerely, I’m looking forward to talking with them again
I work in a hotel and the thing I like most about my job is all of the interesting people I get to meet. The people from foreign countries are the best. I almost feel like I get to travel the word while never leaving my workplace. It can be challenging at times. Sometimes people don’t speak any English at all. Still, my associate and I end up getting our points across, people actually are all the same, and recently my associate and I had some guests from The United Kingdom. Yes, English people do speak English. However, they don’t speak it the same way my associate and I do here in America. English people can be very difficult to understand… For example, on Monday, our English guests came up to the front desk and asked for a fan heater. It took me a minute to figure out what they wanted. What is a fan heater? After thinking it through I figured out that they meant a space heater. Every room has a space heating system but it can be difficult to find. The space furnaces in the room look like amplifiers. They don’t look like furnaces at all. It was very difficult to explain this when the guests didn’t know what a space heating system was. Finally, I had to go to the room and show them the space heater. For great measure I also showed them how to turn it on. They were blissful after that. I am enthusiastic they will be overheated and comfortable for the rest of their trip. And, sincerely, I’m looking forward to talking with them again. It is interesting how weird English speakers use weird words for the same thing. I never would have thought to call a space heating system a fan heating system though.
