Zoned HVAC is all about practicality

Zoned HVAC is all about practicality

I really want to get zoned HVAC for this old house. We have lived here for over 6 years now and we are never comfortable. To start with, it is always way hotter upstairs than it is downstairs. There is about 10 degrees difference in temperature. I know that hot air rises. But I really would like for it to be comfortable both downstairs and upstairs at the same time. I believe that a zoned HVAC system would be able to help with that. Another issue I think zoned HVAC would be able to help with is our high electric bill. I was looking at energy saving tips for HVAC and I discovered that it is recommended that you turn the thermostats down in rooms that aren’t being used. It is not recommended that you close off the vents entirely. However, you can make it around 78 degrees in the summer and 56 degrees in the winter in rooms you aren’t using. We have 2 rooms we don’t use in this house. One is mostly just storage and the other we use whenever we have guests. We only have guests once or twice a year. So if we got a zoned HVAC for the house then we could set the upstairs to a comfortable temperature, the downstairs to a comfortable temperature, and the unused room to energy saving temperatures. It would be perfect. Now I just need to convince my husband that a zoned HVAC system would actually save us money in the long run. He doesn’t like spending money for comfort. It has to be for practical reasons. Trust me, I can help him understand that zoned HVAC is all about practicality.
