Luckily, the local HVAC company has a whole host of technicians that my grandparents know from church or their high school days.
My family is spread around the United States. But, every summer, we get together for a family reunion in my paternal grandparents’ hometown, where they met, raised their five children, and still live today. While I relish getting together with everyone, the family reunion isn’t our only summer tradition. Without fail, ever since I was a kid, the air conditioning system at my grandparents’ house has always broken on reunion day. For as long as I can remember, the family has been sitting in the living room, enjoying the potluck meal and each other’s company, when all of a sudden, we all think, “Is it getting hot in here?” We’ve seen the thermostat refuse to set to a new temperature, we’ve felt hot air coming out of the vents instead of cold air, we’ve seen the vents drip with condensation, and witnessed a myriad of other maladies. Luckily, the local HVAC company has a whole host of technicians that my grandparents know from church or their high school days. The technicians always come out to examine the cooling system, the ducts, the vents, the condenser, the handler, and anything in between to determine the problem, all while at least one relative breathes down their neck to ask when the system will working again, or if they’d like any lasagna. After years of coming out to replace cooling equipment, repair the air conditioning system, or doing something else to ensure that our family reunion isn’t sullied by a lack of cold air, the HVAC technicians have become part of the family. My grandmother now calls the HVAC service before our reunions to let them know the scheduled date. Since something is always wrong with the air conditioner on reunion day, our local HVAC company has a standing invitation to the party!
